Protection & Advocacy for Individuals with Mental Illness (PAIMI)

Services for individuals who have significant mental illness or emotional impairment.

Established By: PAIMI Act of 1986


Protection & Advocacy for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities (PADD)

Services for individuals who have a developmental disability.  A developmental disability is defined as a disability manifested before the age of 22; chronic in nature; and resulting in substantial functional limitations in three or more major life activities.

Administered By: Administration on Developmental Disabilities of the Administration for Children and Families, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

Established By: Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights (DD) Act of 1975


Protection and Advocacy for Individual Rights (PAIR)

Services for all other individuals with physical and/or mental disabilities who are not eligible for services under the PADD and PAIMI programs, or the Client Assistance Program (CAP).

Administered By: Rehabilitation Services Administration of the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, U.S. Department of Education

Established By: Congress as a national program under the Rehabilitation Act in 1993


Protection and Advocacy for Assistive Technology (PAAT)

Services for individuals with disabilities who need assistance obtaining assistive technology devices and services.

Administered By: Rehabilitation Services Administration of the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, U.S. Department of Education

Established By: Created in 1994 when Congress expanded the Technology-Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities Act (Tech Act)


Protection and Advocacy for Beneficiaries of Social Security (PABSS)

Services for individuals who receive Social Security disability benefits and need assistance with the removal of barriers preventing them from returning to work.

Established By: Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Improvement Act of 1999


Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Traumatic Brain Injury (PATBI)

Services for individuals living with traumatic brain injuries and their families.

Administered By: U.S. Human Resources and Services Administration

Established By: Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Act authorized as part of the Children’s Health Act of 2000


Protection and Advocacy for Voter Access (PAVA)

Services for individuals with disabilities to provide education and advocacy to ensure full participation in the electoral process.

Established By: Created in 2002 when Congress enacted the Help America Vote Act (HAVA)


IOLTA (Interest on Lawyer's Trust Accounts)

Nevada Law Foundation has granted NDALC IOLTA funds since 2001 for services for individuals with mental illness needing assistance in addressing housing discrimination or requesting reasonable accommodations in housing.


NDEEP (Nevada Disability Employment Education Project)

NDALC created NDEEP to provide benefits planning education and support to Social Security beneficiaries who are working, interested in working or returning to work.

NDEEP is supported by the Division of Health Care Financing through Grant Number 1QACMS030324/01 from Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and in collaboration with the Nevada Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities. Program contents are solely the responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily represent the official views of the Division nor The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Nevada Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities.
